The former London Dome opened its doors in July 2007 as 'The 02' providing London with a new world class entertainment and sports destination equivalent in size to 13 Albert Halls or 10 St Pauls Cathedrals.
The centrepiece of The 02 is a 23,000 capacity arena with concerts already scheduled by U2, Elton John, Justin Timberlake, Luciano Pavarotti and the Spice Girls.
The 02 also houses over 12 restaurants and bars offering an extensive range of choice, a 2200 seater Live Music Club, a British music experience housing UK music memorabilia and interactive attractions, a 11 screen cinema complex with 700 seater premiere screening room, an Exhibition Centre to feature King Tutankhamun Exhibition `Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs' from November 2007, a 1800 seater theatre with resident shows such as Cirque du Soleil, an Ice Rink, Iconic Luxury Hotel, a Piazza landscaped open space between The 02 and North Greenwich tube station, featuring an outdoor screening area and stage.
The Gymnastics World Championships in 2009 will be held at the O2. As the world's most prestigious gymnastics championships, the six day event, is expected to attract nearly 1000 participants from more than 100 countries. The O2 will also host basketball and gymnastics for the 2012 Olympics.
