peninsula square
The Peninsula Square is due to open in the summer of 2007 and will become a major new outdoor space for London and the gateway to The O2 entertainment destination. It will be similar in size to Leicester Square and in time will become the hub of the new business district, providing cafes, shops and restaurants.
The Peninsula Square will have a sweeping canopy linking the station to The 02 entrance, a permanent performance stage, works of art and a variety of trees including limes and plane trees. A 45 metre stainless steel spire, a combination of a dramatic work of art and exquisite engineering will act as a focal point within the Square.
Geyser water features will bring energy and delight ranging from being quietly bubbling and misting to sometimes sending columns of water ten metre high. Lighting will also be used to respond to the mood within the square. `Zinger` lines in the paving will align with the Greenwich Meridian with a local poets thoughts about "time" engraved under foot, where the points of longitude and latitude meet.
